'Counting my blessings'

As I sit here writing this post, tears are running down my face…

This morning as I was picking up my students, greeting each one of them with a high five, fist bump, and “Buenos Dias”, I was reminded of the blessing in my life.  A song called ‘Counting my blessings’ was playing on the radio this morning on the morning bus route…

While some might think a bus route is not much more than driving around, picking up or dropping off students, for me, it has often been a time of worship.  A time to pray. A time to listen.  It’s also a time where I can greet each child and start off their day and my day with a ‘good morning’.  To give each child an appropriate physical touch; high five & fist bump, out of genuine care and love for each child.

Observing and thinking about many of my students’ homes, their living conditions, and life’s circumstances, I am humbled.  I truly thank God for the many blessings he has given and continues to give to me and my family.  I am so thankful for the joy that God gives, despite life’s circumstances.

The smile that I see on so many of the students faces when I smile at them and greet them is priceless; It is truly a blessing to have each one of these students in my life.  I am so grateful for what God is doing in my family’s life, in the lives of my students, and in the lives of the staff, that I have the privilege of serving with.

… as the song ‘Counting My blessings’ began, I didn’t think too much of it at first.  As it continued, I started listening closer to the lyrics.  The message of the song hit me!

As I pulled onto the school yard the song ended with:

God, I'm still counting my blessings

For all that You've done in my life

The more that I look in the details (the details)

The more of Your goodness I find

Father on this side of heaven

I know that I'll run out of time

But I will keep counting my blessings

Knowing I can't count that high

I will keep counting my blessings

Knowing I can't count that high

If I would have let myself, I think I could have started bawling.

I am so blessed. My family is so blessed. It is a blessing to be a part of Oaks of Righteousness and serve together with the staff that God has brought here.

God is good!

The song ended right as we pulled up to the school. Each child got out of the bus and headed toward the school to start their day.
