On Tuesday, October 8th
The Oaks of Righteousness School had a fundraiser. For the fundraiser, the school decided to do apple, chiles and watermelon picking. We picked for the whole day! I decided that I would stay there for half of the day. So after half of the day, and working really hard, I went home and my dad stayed there. Once we were home we sold watermelons at the end of our driveway and earned 260 pesos (just under $20 CDN). The next day after school, me, my dad and Harrison went to sell more watermelons close by the road where there was more traffic. After sitting there for half an hour we went to a grocery store called RAPIX and we tried to sell watermelons there. When we got there, we saw a poor man sitting by the store and asked him: "TU QUERO UNA SANDIA GRATIS?" Which means: “do you want a free watermelon” . He said yes! So we gave him a free watermelon. Then he started talking English and saying God bless and thank-you very much and we said you're welcome. Meanwhile, when we were selling watermelons, the guy was washing every car`s windshield that pulled up at the store. Then later he came to us with 10 pesos from washing cars and said, “I have 10 pesos for you. I know it is not lots but I believe, like a mustard seed, it can make a difference." We said, "thankyou very much!" Then after we went to the man and said, "can we take a picture with you?" He said, "yes" so we took a picture with him. Then my dad`s friend from Mexico texted my dad and said whatever watermelons are left I will buy. At around 7:45 pm he came and we told him he could have them for 500 pesos and he gave us 1000 pesos (around $70 CDN)! After that fun day, I was really happy that we sold all the watermelons so we went inside and went to bed.
That day just really reminded me of a story in the bible. The poor man that gave us 10 pesos, all that he had, reminded me of the widow in the bible who gave all the money she had. That was a very good day.
